GREENSBORO – Though he’s new to campus, Chancellor Frank Gilliam of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro knows UNCG lost a star health economist to the University of Virginia.
“If faculty salaries stagnate, you will have retention problems,” Gilliam says in the accompanying video. “Our faculty, the best ones, are as good as anybody anywhere – and they have options. And if the idea is to educate our children with the best, then you have to keep the best.
“If we’re having productive faculty on the research side who are great teachers, why would the state want them to leave? That’s who you want in the classroom,” Gilliam says.
“No organization can be successful in the long run if it can’t retain its top talent.”
